2012 Fall Fellow
Stephanie Sterling
Woodworker
Stephanie Sterling was born in Omaha and attended the Kansas City Art Institute for two years. In that time she developed a love for creating sculptures and furniture out of wood.
Her work, which consists of large scale figurative carvings, wood and fiber installations, and furniture, tend to generate conversations of balance, weight, and tension. Particularly interested in showcasing the natural beauty of the material’s grain pattern, she takes careful consideration in choosing the right piece of wood for each new project. This attention to detail and purpose is an important value on craftsmanship for Sterling.
